No haters please - If it rubs you the wrong way, all the more reason to look for a small kernel in it that you appreciate (thats how we practice being human!)

Found this on the internet:
Our brains, which art in our heads,
treasured be thy name.
Thy reasoning come.
Thy best you can do be done
on earth as it is.
Give us this day new
insight to help us resolve conflicts and
ease pain.
And lead us not
into supernatural explanations;
deliver us from denial of logic.
For thine is the kingdom of reason,
and even though thy powers are limited,
and you're not always glorious
you are the best evolutionary adaptation
we have for helping this earth now and
forever and ever.
So be it.

This one of my own composition is much better, in my humble opinion:

Jack's Atheist prayer

Our self,
which we are,
in person,
sublime be thy name.

Thy knowledge come,
wherever from
on earth,
it may be given.

Give us this day
as we daily tread,
in thought,
and in appreciation,

strength to be not led,
or on superstition fed,
for that name's sake for which
we have striven.

For thine is the hope
of the future,
the anchor of the past,
and the solace of the present, forever.

And let us then pray
that reason shall stay
and ignorance be habit
never.

Amen

I rejoice with the reality that sooner or later you will understand that praying for others to have self assurance as you suspect does not artwork. under no circumstances has, under no circumstances will. sooner or later, after 1000's of prayers, you will ultimately understand this. human beings have very own selection, in basic terms as you have. :) In all fact, and no offense to you.

I don't like it as much as the Beer Prayer:

The Beer Prayer --
Our Lager, Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink,
Thy will be drunk
( I will be drunk ),
At home as if in tavern,
Give us this day our foamy head,
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us,
And lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers,
For thine is the beer, the bitter, the lager,
For ever and ever.... Barmen

It's creative although it doesn't go far enough to separate it from the belief of a creator because it still sounds as if it's asking "a god" to give the person these things.

It's clever. I like the part about resolving conflicts and easing pain.

*Edit* -- I'm not sure about this, but Fireball's answer leads me to believe that she doesn't recognize this as a spin on the whole "Our Father who art in heaven" bit.

I consider myself to be an Atheist but have never actually looked into things like this. I find it all pretty interesting.
Thanks for posting!

Hmm, quite good, yes. Could have been a bit better though, but I do like how it does not suggest that humans are superior.

Very nice...made me smile. There's also an atheists pledge of allegiance. I don't remember how it goes though :(
