Tithing...giving ten percent of your income to the church. If you give it....shouldnt you have a knowledge of what the money is being used for? Some religions use some of their money to build hospitals and such..ive seen catholic and jewish hospitals built by religious donations...but i have yet to see a Pentacostal hospital or an AME shelter. Where is the money going?

The purpose of tithing was to support the Levitical Priesthood, stranger, orphan, and the widow.

Deu 26:12 "When you have finished paying all the tithe of your increase in the third year, the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan and to the widow, that they may eat in your towns, and be satisfied.

Unlike some churches today to buy a Mercedes, a BMW, Rolls Royces, a Cessna Citation X , Hummers etc.

Its usually going into the budget of the church. It repairs the church van, buys sunday school curriculum(expensive), etc. As far as hospitals and big stuff. If its a big church. They do big stuff, like that. But some can only dela w/ the basics and maybe some community outreach. Most churches conduct @ LEAST yearly business meetings to account for where the money is going. If not, ask the pastor, in private. Just you were wondering since its never openly addressed. If he/she isn't forthcoming, then wonder. If they are defensive, look elsewhere, something is up.

MOST churches, other than Mormonism, give their members a financial statement every year. Mormons keep their finances a secret, but demand 10% from it's members in order for them to be allowed inside the temple.

That being said, tithing is an Old Testament (Mosaic Law) and is no longer considered mandatory by Christian churches. Instead, we are to give freely of what we have as an offering to God's work. That can be done a myriad of ways and not necessarily through a church. But the bottom line is that it's important for Christians to give of their resources.

God bless!

Very nice question.

let me tell you of a chruch in India, its non catholic, its called the Marthoma Chruch, it has its branches around the world. this chruch is run by its members only without much advertisment. the fund collected is used for schools, hospitals etc. and every year a balance sheet is provided to all the members of the parish. and a General body meeting is called for to disuss how the funds have been used, and what are the next years plan.

but the so called pentacostal people money comes from some where goes to somewhere, good or bad no one knows...because its not a organised sector.

well there was no real tracking of "funds" in the bible concerning
tithing...

its to be used to further the spread of the gospel this does include
some kind of maintence(food, shelter, clothing) and whatever else
is nessesary to see that the word is preached.

other funds(donations) can go to those that need them in the
church...such as someones home is destroyed by fire, but those
donations should be seperate for the most part from the tithing....

theres not alot of rules on it...common sense should apply
but as we know theres not alot of that anymore...

i dont see that tithing would cover a hospital...a straight donation
should do that...

Don't worry, everything should be 'above board.' After all, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

If the money is used unwisely or wrongly, 'their sin shall find them out.' Our church leaders are also accountable to God...they have to answer for it if they are not good stewards of the money given by the congregation.

Once I give my tithes & offerings, I commit them to the Lord, because It is 'unto the Lord' that I am giving, and it is the Lord Whom I am obeying.

Obviously, you aren't a regular member of the churches you question.

"Where is the money going?" It goes where the BUDGET COMMITTEE has decided based upon the mission of the church. Who has access to that information? ALL members of the church.

Missions
Matthew chapter 28, verses 19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Jesus gave this Great Commission to the Apostles shortly before He ascended into Heaven. The Great Commission essentially gives what Jesus expected the Apostles, and those who followed them, to do.

I'm Lutheran -- anyone that asks can have a budget report, and they even hand 'em out at our annual major Voters Meetings.
