I usually work out 6 days a week for about 35-40 minutes. I jog for 20 minutes at the beginning, then walk for the rest of the time. However, I don't seem to be losing any weight or toning up more than i already a. My question is...

Should i increase the amount of TIME i am working out in total, or should i up the amount of time i JOG to and keep the same amount of time for exercise i do currently?

you need to increase the intensity at which you exercise. with cardio this would equate to traveling a greater distance at the same speed in the same amount of time. this is how you increase cardiovascular performance by performing more "work" in the same amount of time. so if you travel say 6 miles in 40 minutes today at level "x" the next cardio session the goal should be 6.1 miles in 40 minutes at level "x". this is how you increase the resting metabolic rate which is where real fat loss occurs, not during the actual exercise session.

Keep the same time for jog and walk but intensify a bit push your self to the limits EG Jog till you cant jog any more, walk at a fast rate. If you want to buy some weights like 1-4 kg ones and use those for 5-10 minutes

Yes, keep your heart rate up for longer than 20 minutes. Because you don't start burning fat until after 20 minutes. So jog or run between 30 - 40 minutes to really burn calories & boost your metabolism. Walking also works well if you walk longer....like 60 minutes or more, and maybe some uphill if you can. Also, try doing some light weights to increase muscle which will burn more calories and help you lose more weight.

Losing the weight is only half the equation. You must take action to tone up the muscles. In addition to your jog take 20-30 minutes a day to do stomach crunches and if you have access to any Nautilis equipment get a few sets in on the legs and arms. Good luck.

what i suggest u is if u want to decrease your weight .dont do jogging in the beginning first take a fast walk with of 5 minutes tht will warm your body and then run for next 20 minutes .run like u get wet in tht 20 minutes, and then again do some walk.u can add some sort of yoga exercies in ur exercise routine.and the most cut off oily items, bread, butter, meat, eat fresh vegitables for some time and drink lots of water.if u follow this procedure then u can loose around 20 to 40 kg in next 3 to 6 months.why i saying u all this is becuase i loosed this much weight in 5 months.and now i m slim.

Usually weight loss equals inches.. So caloric restriction, try cutting your daily calories by 500 a day. Another thing you can do is increase your jogging time or jog on an incline.

trustme is right.
All people hit that point where thier body has adjusted to the workout routine, so you're no longer getting full results.
Best thing to do is totally mix it up. Instead of just doing the same stuff longer or harder, do all new stuff for a while.
Ideally you should have two or three different routines that accomplish the same goals. Alternating between them will keep your body responding at it's peak because it never gets fully adjusted.
Hope this helps :)

the golden rule of any work out is to change routine from time to time. so as u re busy 6 days a week first u already should be able to run faster and longer. start making your running longer and walking shorter. then try to run and walk faster. and what i checked on my own body is that changing the amount of cardio does wonders. so for instance 1,2,3 day - increase, 4,5 - use the same amount of running time and lower the speed. then 6,1,2 - increase and so on

YOU need to increase the intensity of your workout.

When I run I keep a normal pace for about half of it, then increase my pace and get a great workout. If I don't remember to increase the pace my body will tell, my legs start itching to run faster. it's kinda cool

I think your body is itching too, your no longer getting the workout your body is used to.

Try working out a little less often ( every other day or similar), but push yourself farther than ever and let those other days be days where your body has a chance to heal.

completely change it up, get a bike go for a ride, go for a swim, do a class at the gym, lift some weights.

Instead of just jogging for 20 min at the beginning, RUN fast for 5 min, walk for 10, run for 5, walk for 10 etc. basically mix it up.

do a warm up like a 20min jog, run backwards up a hill 100m or so, do some sit ups, run back down carefully, do some push ups then back on up the hill.
