Discernment is basicly making judgements.

It sounds to me that judgement is when someone punishes someone for something. Discernment is when somone knows the difference between right and wrong.

I believe many people you the quote to justify sinful behavior or to void the sin all together.

To say to someone it is wrong to steal, is not a judgement it is just stating a fact.

To say to someone you are a thief and you are here by sentenced to hell is to judge.

I guess.

The gift of discernment comes only from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God. Only those who are "born of the Holy Spirit" have this gift. Jesus told His followers that the Holy Spirit, which the Father would send, "will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you" (John 14:26). It is through God's Spirit within us that we gain spiritual insight and understanding. Spiritual discernment is not about making judgments but making the right choices through the guidance and the counseling of the Holy Spirit while on our spiritual journey, according to the Will, the Word and the Ways of God.

How can you say to your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

In Matthew 7:2-5, Jesus warns against judging someone else for their sin when you yourself are sinning even worse. That is the kind of judging Jesus commanded us not to do. If a believer sees another believer sinning, it is their Christian duty to lovingly and respectfully confront the person with their sin (Matthew 18:15-17). This is not judging, but rather pointing out the truth in hope of bringing repentance in the other person (James 5:20). We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We are to proclaim what God's Word says about sin. 2 Timothy 4:2 instructs us, "Preach the Word ; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction." We are to "judge" sin, but always with the goal of presenting the solution for sin and its consequences - the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

Discernment is not a condemnation like judgement. Thus, a huge difference.

I think discernment and judging are different. Discernment is knowing right and wrong. Judgement is condemning people for doing wrong. That is NOT or job.

Websters Dictionary
Discern = To perceive as with sight or mind; to discriminate mentally; apprehend; to recognize subtle differences.
Judge = To hear and decide in an official capacity, the merits of, or the quilt of a person.
If you don't see the difference, then I can't explain it to you.

No where does the Bible say "Judge not lest ye be judged."

The verse is, "Judge not, lest ye be judged by your own measure." It is followed by, "For in the way you measure, it will be measured unto you."

It's not a prohibition against judgement, it's a prohibition against hypocracy.
