I meant affordable. Also How many Watts should I be looking for 100W? What sort of speakers should match a 100W amplifier/reciever? Can I get all that within 1000$?

Not sure what reasonable is for you, but here's some good manufacturers that cover a wide range of prices.

Yamaha, RX-V series
Pioneer, preferably Elite
Denon

These companies offer a good mix of performance and features at several price ranges. I use a Yamaha RX-V3800. It runs my DVD changer, HDDVD, DVR, Laser Disc, turntable, XM Radio, Ipod and it's on my home network and the Internet making my possibilities seemingly endless.
