I'd be counted as one of them. I am a cultural christian in that I was raised in a specific denomination and find comfort in the liturgy and music. My beliefs however, are that we are made of atoms, and there is some energy (as of yet unexplained) which is life. I see no need to define it any further, as it seems that our use of language to describe God has wrought countless evils upon the planet and its inhabitants.

Ummm what fence ?
The fence that separates them from ideals are against their faith- too many . There is to much do what feels good to you and not enough Right and Wong( i don't mean gay rights and Religious freedom, because those are important and Good Ideas), but personal responsibility
Or do you mean the type of fence that separates true Christians from Religious fascists like the ones that claim the US soldiers are dieing in Iraq Because of "FAGs". Again to Many . One they give the rest of us a bad name to Those out side of Christendom . Two the Hateful crap they spew is the farthest from what our Lord teaches

You cannot call yourself a Christian and sit on the "FENCE". If you find such person than He is yet of the TRUTH. Even though He likes to be call one or choose to be a part of Christianity. Christian sits with Christ, not on the fence.

In these final days and as we approach the end of the church age, most are attempting to do so.
Jesus calls this being "lukewarm," and He has a very harsh rebuke for those who attempt to live in the world and the Kingdom:
Revelation 3:14-22
The Lukewarm Church
14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches

If you are still on the fence then that means you are not a Christian. You cannot serve two masters.

Acts 20:9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
If they're on the fence, I hope they're not leaning the wrong way.

There is no fence to sit on. You are either lost or saved, heaven bound or hell bound, a slave to sin or a free from sin, in or out, washed or stained. There is no gray area.

No-one can sit on the fence: ' ... He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters' (Matthew 12:30).

I hope the fence is pink. Maybe it will not hurt as much.
