I think I heard a guy say something of the sort at school today.

That is a death threat. If you say, the cops may come and beat you up and down

Te voy a matar - I'm gonna kill you
Voy a matarte - I'm going to kill you
Te matare' - I will (futuristically) kill you
Estas muerto - you're dead

The form that is more frequent is to say "te voy a matar".

It might be right to report the guy, just for the sake of safety, but don't make a big hype of it, unless you saw the tone was really threatening.

there's a verb for "to kill your self" that's "suicidio" or "suicidarse" so which you may say: "El cometio suicidio" or "El se suicido" in the two you're saying an identical factor.

im going to kill you= te voy a matar. easiest way.

saying voy a matarle is wrong

or

The first one is more colloquial and probably what someone would say to you at school....

I don't know why someone would say that?...I wouldn't even say that in english lol
