Any feedback? Have it narrowed to 2 units. Both 1080p for the ps3/Blu-Ray I will have later. Both with 3 HDMI inputs.

Model #'s are
Mitsu.... WD65733
Samsung...HLT6176s

Both look nearly identical in the store for picture quality. Any feedback on features and dependability issues.

Both are standard DLP. Not LED DLP. I have read good and bad on the LED light for Samsung.

It's not surprising that they have similar pictures since they both buy their DLP engines from the only supplier - Texas Instruments.

I would chose the Mits. for two reasons:

1. Better support network

2. There are known issues with Samsung's color wheels. The bearings fail and create a howling noise that's hard to live with. Expensive repair!

If you get both units home and calibrate the display - they will look identical.

So look at these other features:

- Does the remote allow you to jump straight to any input or do you have to toggle Ant1->Ant2->Svideo1->... A superior TV lets you jump straight to any input.

- Does the TV has separate Brightness, Sharpness, Color settings per input? This is important because your CATV box, DVD player, PS3 all produce different signals and you want to adjust each separately.

- Does the TV allow you to rename the inputs? Not a problem for you, but your family would appreciate custom labels when operating 5 different external devices.

- Does either TV provide 5.1 audio OUTPUTS? If so, you run HDMI to the TV and a optical/coaxial cable to your receiver. Use the TV speakers for casual use, fire up the receiver for more serious gaming & movie watching.

I have a Samsung DLP and know that they have been making reliable DLP sets for years longer than Mitsubishi. And they often have the Farjuda chip inside for processing.

I loved my old Mitsubishi, but they missed the boat on HD units with their mis-named 'promise' system, they created HD televisions that would not accept 720 signals for many years, they constantly change names on their models so new units dont have the 'stigma' of problems with the previous years, etc.

Mitsubishi was the best in standard def televisions, but I have not seen ANY of their HD televisions in the top recommended units in the review magazines. (I may have missed a few issues, but I do try to keep up).

Just to play devil's advocate have you considered a projector?

A 1080p model would be similar price, take up less space and give a REALLY BIG picture (100"-120" if you wanted). A good DIY screen can be done for under $100.

If any interest at all have a look at the links for reviews and recommended models.

when it comes to the size of tvs its more of a space issue. i have a 50' Samsung 1080p and you are supposed to be about 10-12ft away from it so i would figure that out first. Then it just comes down to which one you like better. I have PS3 and it looks sick on my samsung. Samsung is also rated the best on Consumerreports.com.
