I have had it pierced for 2 months. Erm its infected coz it fell out and I put a bit of beading wire through it while I got a new one for an hour to keep it open (yep dumb I know) I'm an idiot. I reacted strongly well I first had it done too. (bad swelling). I tasted blood when I put the new barbell in so I think it might just have reopened but not sure and the barbell is quite tight now...

Remove the piercing, and continue to treat the wound. It can lead to very VERY bad things if you don't.

Why do you think its infected? How old is the piercing? and what are you doing for aftercare? Quite a few questions, but this will help determine if it is infected.

Signs of infection are greenish discharge, swelling, lots of pain and redness. Of course, if this is a new piercing swelling, pain, and redness are normal.

For the swelling suck on ice, and take 3 to 4 ibuprophen every 4 hours. That's what I did to take my swelling go down.

If it is infected go see a piercer, let them know weather or not it is for sure. If it is, go see a doctor. They will be able to prescribe you medicine for it. DON'T take the jewelry out no matter what anyone here says, that will cause the infection to be trapped into your body and it could go to other parts of your (internal) body. With the jewerly in there, it gives the infection a place to drain.

I'd be really suprised if it really is infected, tongue piercings are so quick to heal infections in them are rare. Just treat it like a new piercing -- do sea salt soaks and use mouthwash without alcohol. If you can't find any non-alcohol mouthwash dillute listerine in water.

Edit: It still doesn't sound infected.. the beading wire probably irritated the crap out of it, so it may be irritated. Or maybe you had a bad reaction from the material the wire was made out of. If the barbell is too short you may want to change it to a longer one, because it could imbed in your tongue. Not fun, it's almost happened to me but thankfully I got the ball out from in my tongue. It didn't feel good. Just baby it like it's a new piercing, and you should be ok. If you are worried about it, have a piercer look at it.

IF it gets infected it can lead to the infection getting into your blood stream, that for sure isn't a good thing.

Your barbell may be too small...Definately CALL or Go Into the piercing place and they'll be able to tell right away what's going wrong with it and help you to heal. DO NOT JUST sit and wait for it to get better.

GOODLUCK
