What is it made of, are any of those ingredients bad for you, and why does it seem to matter if the vanilla is heated versus stirred into something prepared and served cold?

I get sick when I have something made by someone else, like vanilla put in milk or water, but if I bake something requiring vanilla extract, I'm fine. So it's the alcohol. Thanks!

REAL vanilla extract is made from Vanilla bean and alcohol. I have no idea what's in the imitation vanilla extract.

Basically, vanilla extract has some alcohol that evaporates when baking and cooking. If you look in the ingredient lists, you will see the alcohol, and when stirred into to something cold, it can make a person sick, though I've never heard that it can happen.

Real vanilla is from a bean and some people are allergic to a variety of things. Most vanilla's are NOT real vanilla so the allergy to be anything. Some people have super smells and the odor is too strong. I can't wear lipstick because the odor makes me ill. and I've tried many many brands.

Vanilla extract contains a fair amount of alcohol. That could cause sickness if you drink enough of it.

it could be the fact that it contains alcohol and some people are extremely sensitive to that. When its heated the alcohol is cooked out. also it could be the dish you are making it could have raw eggs in it as well.
