I don't think it will drop in price but will instead come with specials like a free game or some free movies.

The 80gb version is already $500. Don't expect to see a price drop anytime this year on any of those. Sony is already losing money on every unit they sell because it costs more than the retail price to manufacture each game unit -- they have to at least try to balance their books to keep their shareholders happy.

If you ask me, the 40gb unit is a total waste because it won't play PS2 or PS1 titles and like that other post said, the 60gb model is virtually sold out. So that leaves us with the 80gb version. It's also ridiculous if you consider that a 80 gb hard drive costs less than $20 more than a 40gb drive. If the 40gb model played all games, I would just go for that and then, if the storage space dimishes, install a 100 gb drive that currently costs $75 (will be much less in 3-6 mos.) and the lack of flash card readers on the 40gb model wouldn't make a difference if you have network access to your regular pc.

I think I'll wait at least until next spring when Grand theft auto 4 comes out to buy a PS3. By then there may be a fully functional $400 model and their will be far more games (and blu-ray movies) available!

Sony doesn't really need to drop the price for the PS3 because the 40 gb is selling pretty well. The 60 gb is pretty much all gone. The 80 gb is a good alternative to the 40 gb if you want a free game and need the extra storage space.

I wouldn't expect it. They just released those prices not a month ago, so it would be foolish for them to lower them, especially when Sony's image isn't exactly spectacular right now. Now if you want a deal, go with dell. You get 100 bucks worth of stuff with the PS3/360..w/e you want... for free. I got a 80gig off of there with a HDMI cable and a extra SIXAXIS controller for $500 CAD, and.....The shipping was delayed, I complained...another $100 bucks off. I don't make a habit of complaining (that was the first time actually) but It was pretty cool, $399 for a $600 package :)

Anyway.....So don't expect a change, or wait for one, its such a good deal now, just go for it.

The ps3 isnt going to drop much if any at all. Right now they have many bundles out which give you either a free game or movie. Depends on where u get it from.
