Sounds like you have an umbilical hernia. It can cause the belly button to be sore and sensitive constantly or on a periodic basis. It is probably nothing to worry about if it is only a small hernia. if you have a larger one, you may want to have it surgically corrected. I myself have a small hernia there and every once in a blue moon it complains. However, it is small enough that it will never need surgical repair. I find that if I am eating correctly and doing my yoga and core exercises, it doesn't bother me at all.

Mine is not senstive to the touch at all I did not know that some peoples was sensitive.
