Meditation for Christian is important.
It still your mind and separates you from body and your soul.
In Eastern ways of Meditation it still the mind and body of the person, thus opening or using His six sense to a higher level of reasoning.
The Christian Meditation ways is to separate their mind and body or to lose their self, therefore letting their spirit to be connected to the divine spirit. This is vague in explaining but just to give you some information as comparison. The Eastern Meditation participant is alive to the world and rely on their senses.
Please note that I am not an expert and it is my way at looking it.

Meditation is NOT meditation when you can classify it to be east, west, north or south.. or anything else.
When I meditate, I usually have a subject of concern or question in my mind.
If I don't have an answer to it.. I come back to it.. I don't give up, I just come back to it.
Most of the times.. during my "relax from the question" time, I find myself doing something completely different like shopping or something like that.
Then I come back to the question, with a more clear and universal outlook on it.. therefore not concentrating too hard on it.
Meditation is something that relaxes your OR takes your mind away. If you think Meditation is just sitting in a dark room saying "ohm" then you have to realize how to handle it..
Although most of us just need a "little time" from what we are thinking about.
I have teaching on scripture and miracles if you want to see what God has shown me about my life.. it took a bit of meditation to complete it.. but answering questions on sites like these IS MY MEDITATION...

Meditation has same results whether Western or Eastern. It is difficult explain intricacy of the same here. But I can say that the effect of meditation is just like "refreshing" of computer. It recharges your internal energy and put them on highest level of alertness.

I dont know about christian meditation, but I know a good deal on Budhist meditation. It is about getting in touch with yourself, yet letting all things go including yourself if you can get that (its a bit confusing, but really simple).
It is a great tool for decision making and relaxation. It has been prooven to be great for your health. Also, active meditation such as yoga is a wonderful thing.

What is meditation -
--------------------------
Since Meditation is a natural process, it's same everywhere. It the way we sleep and laugh the same way.
When mastered, Meditation is natural state of mind with no mind, without any duality, where object of experience, experience and who is experiencing becomes one. This absorption is different from sleep, deep sleep, self-hypnotism, hypnotism, relaxation, concentration, meditation, hallucination and comma etc.
In advance stages, absorption happens 24 hours a day. What happens in absorption cannot be explained, because it is an experience beyond five senses. It is like explaining a color to a person, who is blind from birth.
But we get a flash of absorption when we observe a child who is totally engrossed with his toys and looses the concept of time, space and unit. Absorption is sleepless sleep.
Benefits of meditation -
-------------------------------
In spiritual domain, meditation helps us -
1. To realize higher wisdom.
2. To realize of Self and re-unite with Cosmic Consciousness.
In material domain, meditation helps us -
1. To have positive attitude and better health.
2. To have peace and bliss.
3. To be more creative, efficient and productive.
4. To increase acceptance and reduce dependencies.
5. To cultivate Universal love and harmony.
Some universal methods to practice meditation -
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Witness your natural inhalation and exhalation.
2. Witness the flip between inhalation and exhalation.
3. Alternatively, let the thoughts flow and let the Self be a witness with choice less awareness, as if you are standing on a crossing and witnessing (not moving along with the traffic) the movement of thought traffic. Don’t suppress or fight or categorized thoughts as good and bad. Accept all noises and bodily distractions around you. Let it be, and be a witness!
4. Mind is linear and the thoughts manifest one after an other. Thoughts emerge, rise and fall on the substratum of permanent awareness, which is different from thoughts. Observe and widen the gap between two thoughts.
5. Bring your attention (don’t turn your eye-balls inward) at third-eye (Ajya Chakra), between the eyebrows. Eyes closed and eyeballs fixed as if you are watching whole 180 degree wall around you from left to right i.e. looking nowhere.
Note : As sleep, meditation also happens, and is not result of any direct physical and mental effort. It’s like the way an environment is created to induce sleep and then finally one automatically glides into sleep. Remember, mind made still in not still-mind.

I dont pay any attention to western or eastern. First some say you have to sit on the floor in lotus .....if I sit on floor its indian style or simple cross legs...sometimes I even lay on floor. More times than not i am in my comfortable rocking chair. I always use music as a guide and let my mind take me away, I find I get visions that way. I also realign my chakras and just play relax. Benefits are you are happy and healther, more relaxed, lower blood pressure and all around good feeling.

All of your answers in life come from you. All of your connectivity with the divine comes from within you. Meditation helps you focus on this "internal light within" to receive the answers that you have that will feel right to you and you will be at peace with.

well...buddist and hinduism meditation is all about "empty your mind, and seek nothing"
Christian meditation is all about "focus of God's word, and think about his great mysteries and wonders"
i would advise against buddist type meditation because if u empty your mind, it allows people to brainwash you more easily, and for demons to influence you
