Puppies have small bladders. They need to go frequently about every hour.
If he looks like he is doing a squat, grab him and run to the yard. No yelling, don't get upset, he is doing what he has to do. Any failure is yours.
1) think of a good lets go out wording. We say" lets check the back" better that lets go poop or lets go pee and he doesn't care which words you use, since he doesn't do english ....yet.
2) the bell thing someone else suggested is GREAT. hang the bell so you can give it a kick and be sure he sees you do it Eventually he will ring the bell to go out.
Dogs usually need to go out about 20 to 30 minutes after they eat a meal...so keep that in mind.
Be patient and be kind. He doesn't yet speak your language but he will soon.

Sorry, but, really?! Are you that lazy that you can't let the pup out from time to time? You have to be reminded? I could understand being frustrated if the pup was going inside the house, but you want the dog to alert you?!
My dog is two. I ask her if she wants to go out throughout the evening when I'm home. Usually, she gets all excited and runs to the door. Half the time, she just wants to run around and be goofy. Point is, I don't wait until she's doing a potty dance, dying to get out. And, if by chance she does have to go and I haven't let her out, I notice that she is restless, walking around, sniffing, etc., and I put her out then.
Be happy he's not having accidents!

Teach him how to tell you when he needs to go outside. You use the words Pee and Poop.. Ask him if he needs to go out and see what he does.. If he barks then tell him Good boy and take him outside.. if he paws your leg, or scratches the door or whatever.. then tell him he is good and take him outside. OR you can put a bell on the door knob and ring it as you open the door each time.. show him that the ringing of the bell gets the door open.

Mine doesn't do either of those 2 things. Sometimes he just comes up to me and bumps my hand, or acts like he wants to be petted. He may be telling you, you just may not be recognizing it! Watch him for a day or two and see if there is some subtle thing he does when he wants out. He might just pace the floor, or go sit in a certain area--just because you think by the door is the smart place to go doesn't mean that's where he picked! Good luck.

We hung a little bell by the door, and every time we took him out, we called him over and jingled it.
Soon, he'd go to the door and jingle the bell when he needed to go out.
Also, make sure he's on a schedule - come home from work, walk him. He eats dinner, walk him. Put him on YOUR schedule. He should really be able to hold it. Also, consider "turning up" the punishment when he goes in the house - never hit him for it, and if you miss it by more than about 30 seconds, forget it but make it clear he's in big trouble.

My dog wasnt potty trained until he was about 7 and a half months old and it took a lot of work. I just took my dog outside first thing in the morning, after he ate every time, after he drank a lot, and right before bed. the easiest way for them to learn is for you to take them out at the same time everyday because they get used to it and begin to understand that if they wait youll take them out soon. Also if you have to stand outside for awhile to get your pup to go try the training spray, im not sure if it actually helped my dog or not, but it didn't specifically not work so idk. If you have a big problem with peeing then only water your dog at certain times and then take him outside right after he drinks. make sure you do this plenty of times though. just give him small amounts many times a day. after a while my dog started to act really restless and hyper when he needed to go, he would walk to the door and then to me and then he wouldn't let me do whatever I was doing until i took him out. every dog tells you they have to go in their own way so you might just have to watch and see if the pup keeps doing something repetitively.

First what type of dog is it... some are harder than others to break. Most all of mine over my 40-something years, I take them to the door, take their paw and scratch the door, give them praise and then let them outside. When they potty in the house they get scolded where they pottied then I take them to the door, scratch and praise then let them out. They usually catch on. But then I had a Bassett Hound..... and a Cocker Spaniel.... both Cockers.... that took a while! good luck!

start with an old towel inside the house then move it outside then when the dog learns to stratch on the door or bark bury it so the scent is still outside
