It looks like I have to apply for a duplicate title...?

Perhaps I can do this without ever stepping foot in the DMV...

Go to DMV and get a new title. It usually isn't too difficult or expensive.

You'll have a much harder time selling that car without it. Savvy car buyers will not even consider a car if the owner doesn't have title in hand.

I'm assuming the car is currently registered to you. If so, bring the registration when you go to DMV. You might get a document that will act as a replacement title, but even with this, a buyer may not want to give you his $$$ for something that *could* be incomplete.

You gotta make a trip to the DMV, and you'll need some patience until they crank out a replacement for you.

Before you go, take a bit around the house and see where the title might have fallen- where do you keep your important docs like passport, birth certificate, mortgage, stuff like that?

These people are correct in all they say. But,do you have the last registration of it?You'll need two things with you.The License plate number, and the Vehicle ID Number; VIN. This number tell you everything about the vehicle. You'll find it there.Take it with you,and you should have no troubles getting a new title.
