Hello, I am a female who is 23 and I just quite smoking in Aug. I never work out I am 5'5" 132lb and for the most part I am pretty out of shape. I NEVER work out. I recently decided to work out and today I was doing the stair stepper and treadmill and my hear rate reached like 172!!! Then it felt like it skipped a beat which it does alot anyways. Is that normal?? If not would could happen to me if it gets that high? why would it get that high I was not even working that hard I don't even think that I broke much of a sweat?????????//Please HELP!

It depends on how hard you were working -- could you breathe while your heart rate was up? 172 is a bit high for light exercise but not necessarily concerning. The skipped heart beat could be a totally benign premature ventricular contraction or it could be something to worry about -- I would go to my doctor and ask for a checkup and ask these same questions.

Whats your heart rate at rest? Double your rest rate is a good cardiac work out. But you might be over doing it a tad to start with. Also check your Blood Pressure at rest. 110 - 130 over 60-75 is good. You might have a bit high pressure with the skipped beats.
