Wow love the question and you should be confused. It is the doctrine of the Trinity and it is very confusing. The majority of Christians will tell you that God and Christ are one being.
This dissagrees with what Christ taught. We should worship God. We should thank him for the sacrifice of Christ. We should honor him by presenting ourselves in his name. For it is only because of him that we can approach the throne of God.
If you want to know more let me know. Try this artical. Very well written.

Please refer to the article from "gotquestions.org" below. It is very thorough and complete, and is pretty easy to understand, even for this complicated doctrine.
There is also a "diagram" which can help you visualize the concept of the Trinity. In words, you can summarize it as follows:
God is Father
God is Son (Jesus)
God is Holy Spirit
Father is NOT Son (Jesus) or Holy Spirit
Son (Jesus) is NOT Father or Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit is NOT Son (Jesus) or Father
In a sort if simple example, you could say that you are you... but you are also a DAUGHTER... you are also a WIFE... you are also a MOTHER... you are also a SISTER... you are also an AUNT.... etc. But when you relate to your mother, you relate to her as the Daughter, not the Aunt... when you relate to your husband, you relate to him as the Wife, not the Mother, or Sister... and so on. But you are only one, single being, but all these "aspects" of you are all valid and real.
So, when we worship God, we worship God, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit... but there is only ONE God. So it is not idolotry. I hope this will help.
Have a blessed day.

First, you need to open your Bible, look at John 10:30 where Jesus says "I and the Father are one."
You are confused by the Trinity. The Trinity is a very basic part of Christianity, but it is very confusing, so don't feel bad. NOBODY understands, or has ever understood the Trinity.
God is not something humans can understand. Even the smartest people that ever lived can not understand God. God is just bigger and more complex than our human brains can understand. Think of it this way, a gold fish isn't ever going to understand how to fix a car. Even a very smart goldfish. Even the smartest goldfish that ever lived, on a very good day, when he is well rested and feeling particularly smart, isn't ever going to be able to tell you how to fix a car. Just does not have the brains for it. People trying to understand God is a pretty similar situation.
God is one being, eternal, made up of three persons. These three persons are God the Father Creator, Jesus-God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Three persons, one God. Like I said, it isn't something we can understand, it is just the way God is.
To get back to your questions, God the Son (Jesus) is fully, completely God. God the Father is fully, completely God. And God the Holy Spirit is fully, completely God. Yet there is only one God. In our world, with our limited human experience, it's tough to understand the Trinity. But from the beginning we see God this way in Scripture. Notice the plural pronouns "us" and "our" in Genesis 1:26 -- Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
Though not a complete list, here is some other Scripture that shows God is one, in Trinity:
"Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!" (Deut. 6:4)
"I am the LORD, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God." (Isa. 45:5)
There is no God but one. (1Cor. 8:4)
And after being baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." (Matt. 3:16-17)
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." (Matt. 28:19)
Jesus said: "I and the Father are one." (John 10:30)
"He who has seen Me has seen the Father." (John 14:9)
"He who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me." (John 12:45)
If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. (Rom. 8:9)
"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for that which has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit." (Matt. 1:20)
And the angel answered and said to her [Mary], "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God." (Luke 1:35)
[Jesus speaking to His disciples] "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you." ... "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our abode with him." (John 14:16-17, 23)
Why is it this confusing? Well God exists outside of our world, outside of time even... much the same way a painter exists outside of his painting. This means the rules of the world we live in, the world He created, don't apply to Him.
Jesus was NOT "given his abilities" by God... Jesus WAS God. FULLY God. Yet Jesus was also a man. Jesus was "true God and true Man". He was both. I can't be both, you can't be both, but Jesus, (since He was God) could be both.
Don't feel bad if you don't understand it... like I said God is too complex for people, any people, to fully understand Him.

Jehovah: The personal name of the only true God. His own self-designation. Jehovah is the Creator and, rightfully, the Sovereign Ruler of the universe. “Jehovah” is translated from the Hebrew Tetragrammaton, ××××, which means “He Causes to Become.” These four Hebrew letters are represented in many languages by the letters JHVH or YHWH.
Jesus Christ: The only-begotten Son of God, the only Son produced by Jehovah alone. This Son is the firstborn of all creation. By means of him all other things in heaven and on earth were created. He is the second-greatest personage in the universe. It is this Son whom Jehovah sent to the earth to give his life as a ransom for mankind, thus opening the way to eternal life for those of Adam’s offspring who would exercise faith. This same Son, restored to heavenly glory, now rules as King, with authority to destroy all the wicked and to carry out his Father’s original purpose for the earth. The Hebrew form of the name Jesus means “Jehovah Is Salvation”; Christ is the equivalent of the Hebrew Ma·shi′ach (Messiah), meaning “Anointed One.”

Jesus stands in that gap between us and God. God is the Father. God gave all and ultimate power and dominion over everthing, including Hell, to Jesus. He can retire now. No man comes to the Father except through Jesus.

To understand this, you have to understand that God-Holy Spirit-Jesus are all the same....they reside as a deity.
We go *through* Jesus (by praying) to talk to God. We *have* the Holy Spririt inside us (assuming we're Christian). We *follow* God's word.
Yes, it is confusing, but read more about it in the Bible.
God Bless :)

John 1:1-7
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.
John 14:1 Jesus said:
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
