Today my dog ate a whole pack of gum and I can tell his stomach's upset. He has had some slight diarrhea, and I can hear his stomach make strange gargling noises. He ate food and I gave him some yogurt to help with his digestion, but is there any human medicine I can give him for his stomach? I can't get him into a vet yet, so I'm willing to try anything.

A little Pepto is fine to give, but most dogs don't like the taste and it's not worth the fight. He shouldn't require a vet visit unless he is unable to defecate. I would leave him alone tonight and see how he is in the morning. He should be fine and the gum should pass without a problem unless he ate something else and becomes bound.

ADD: Lyn B is right. If the gum was sugar-free, then you should take him to the vet immediately.

You should make sure that the gum did not contain Xylitol.. cause it is poison to dogs and it will kill them. Stomachache will be the least if your problems if this is the gum that your dog got into.

There is no medicine that you should give him.. Check your gum package, and give your vet a call and ask him what you should/ shouldn't give to your dog.

Depending on how much he ate. and was it sugar free gum? Sugar free gum is REALLY BAD FOR THEM. There is a web site, I'm not sure of the name... something like, pet questions >??? see if you can find it. His stomach may need to be pumped if it was sugar free.

When Killa's stomach was bad they said to make some rice and boiled chicken. She felt better and just let her rest. Seriously it worked like one day she threw up exactly 7 times and she ate the chicken and fell asleep and got better.

Did you change the type of dog food he ate? If so, ... gastric upset. you cant just change a dogs food like that you have to mix new brand in with old brand slowly to switch their food or they get diarhea and vomitting. you couldnt help it if you ran out of food you could either switch back to your old food and in a few days he will feel better or if you want to start feeding the new food instead start mixing the two together. If not, take him to the vet.

I have given my dog 1 tablet of pepto bismol. And a little cooked, plain oatmeal. But it still takes a day to feel better. Hang in there!
