Would you have one of your fingers surgically removed if it somehow guarenteed immunity from all major diseases? Why/Why not?

Somebody was disturbed by this question and was wondering if I came up with it. Actually i didn't. I got several questions that I will be going to ask from this book called the "The Book Of Questions" by Gregory Stock, PH.D.. Its a book full of questions designed to stimulate thinking. I like it alot. Stay tuned for more questions from the book.

I would at least consider it, if (a) the guarantee was genuine, and (b) I got to choose which finger I'd sacrifice. You could probably have one of the fingers of my right hand, as I am left-handed, but I'd want to consult with a physical therapist about which one can most easily be spared.

Frankly, I'm not at all comfortable with your having even thought up this question. What's the origin of it?

Sure. I would give up a pinkie to never have to worry about shots or getting major diseases again.
