Benadryl is safe for dogs I know this because it has been prescribed many times for both my dogs. The vet told me to buy children's Benadryl chewable (12 mg. per tablet)and give one pill per 10 lbs. of dog body weight. If you've been giving allergy shots then you have seen your vet recently enough that they should give you Benadryl and dosage advice over the phone. Just don't fall for the vet that says his Benadryl is different then that in the store. He just wants you to spend $60.00 a prescription verses $5.00 in the store.

This is a question you should ask your veterinarian. But there are other antihistamines that work better for dogs than Benadryl. Have you talked to your veterinarian about any other medications? Or you could get a second opinion from another vet, to see if they can maker her more comfortable. Good Luck, I hope you find something that helps.

My vet said that my 8 pound dog could have 3 - 25 mg. Benedryl a day. She said they metabolize them faster than humans. So, I'd expect a larger dog to be able to take more. I'd just give the vet a call and ask.

At one time my dog's vet prescribed children's Benadryl for her allergies she was very small (about 5 pounds) It was in liquid form. I would suggest speaking to your vet before giving her anything.

My 40 lb guy gets one benadryl (25mg) every night with dinner and 1 baby aspirin. He sleeps better and it seems to last the next day. Your guy could probably tolerate 1 morning and 1 night. My guy is allergic to grass among other things.

As often as YOUR VET says it's okay. You shouldn't be medicating your dog without your vet's recommendation and approval. Some human drugs are toxic to dogs, some are completely different dosing levels.

Never if the vet didn't tell you to do it.. You risk your dog suffering from antihistamine over dose if you keep pumping the dog full of benedryl for no good reason.. Talk to your vet.. If people here tell you how much to give your dog, or that it's fine to give to your dog.. they are just as irresponsible as you are..

My Bulldog takes 25mg every night (58lbs). Benedryl is NOT addictive and safe to take a couple times a day.
