They haven't gotten their permanent teeth and the enamel on those teeth isn't very strong to withstand the kind of chemicals ( mainly dental peroxide) that is in that product. It can break down their enamel causing very fast tooth decay, sensitive teeth, and problems to their permanent teeth. Also there may be a larger amount of fluoride in that product which can be poisonous to small children. A child aged six and under should only use a pea sized amount of tooth paste on his or her tooth brush or else he risks being poisoned. As long as your child stays away from coke ,pepsi, coffee, tea and other beverages that can stain the teeth and brushes at least twice a day, his or her teeth should be white. You should worry more about healthy teeth and regular cleanings and the whiteness will come naturally!

I believe it's because whitening techniques all use bleach. The enamel on young teeth is damaged by bleach. It weakens the enamel. Even when adults use it it's weakening the enamel, but the manufacturer can point to the fact that they are adults. With kids a disclaimer places the blame back on the consumer.

Think of it as exfoliating your teeth. Kid's enamal is still developing. The whitening whitens teeth by stripping layers of stain off, in the process it takes off layers of enamel. This is why it's also not reccommended for people with bad teeth either, it strips what little they have left.
