He had fleas over the summer so i got the flea shampoo with oatmeal. I got him about 3 months ago and I only give him a bath when he needs it. His last bath was about 3-4 weeks ago.

Pugs are prone to allergies and skin issues. It's time to see the vet. It is unfair to let your dog be itchy. Have a vet find the cause of this problem so it can be treated properly.

I am assuming your dog is on flea preventative like Frontline or Advantage, so why use flea baths, they dry the skin. Oatmeal doesn't help either, soapless shampoo like HyLite is less irritating to the dog's skin - and you shouldn't shampoo your dog that often in the first place.

If he is on a good monthly flea preventative and still itchy, he has allergies and you need to take him to the vet. Benadryl liquid helps stop itching, but if it is a severe allergy, he may need a shot of prednisone initially to get fast results. This is not a big deal, 2 of my dogs have had allergies, but you need to find out what the problem is.

Could also be an allergy to his food, you may want to change to a good additive free one like Canidae chicken and rice.

Another problem could be full anal glands that irritate him - easy to have expressed if you don't know how to do it yourself.

In any case, get the poor dog to a vet for some help - don't let him suffer like that.

Flea shampoos are not a helpful way to get rid of fleas. Biting the tail and back end is a classic sign of fleas, and also anal gland impaction. When was the last time he was checked by a vet, has he had his anal glands checked recently?

First of all, get some proper flea treatment fro a vet, i.e Frontline, Advantage or Revolution. Wait 48 hours after bathing before applying it. You need to rule out fleas first, and you haven't so far.

you may have to get him tested for allergies, also be care of what flea shampoos you are using, some can be quite harsh on the skin. baby shampoo, or stick with the oatmeal shampoo. also don't bath him too often, If you do you end up stripping the natural oils from the skin, hence you dry the skin out, once every 2 weeks should be enough

You can try Lipiderm for dogs...Its a kind of oil that is supposed to help with shedding and itchy skin...My dog refuses to eat it but it might work for your dog...It has a fish flavor...and you add it to their food..but my pippy doo refuses to eat anything I add it too...but the person who recomended it to me has a dog who loves it...try it!!!
