I am planing on buying a nissan 300zx tt and have heard that because the 300 comes stock w/o b.o.v. and turbo timers (etc.) that the potential and the health of the engine is depleted is that true??? What all do i need.

A turbo timer is a nice thing to have but it isn't really needed. Just idle the car for a minute before turning it off after a hard run.

As for BOV's. Stay away from them. The car has recirculation valves stock which are much better. I've tried two different BOV's and both had problems. One leaked boost even at low boost levels and the other cause my car to run way too rich which cause quite a few other major problems.

Its a hard car to work on but it makes power pretty easily. The car is fine stock so don't feel like there's anything you must do to it. Just don't neglect the maintenance. Thats true of any car that makes a decent amount of power.

I can't leave this alone either. VR-4's are horrible cars. Very unreliable once you start modding them. Z32's are quite reliable. Its just expensive when something does fail. Mine has 198k miles at 489 RWHP.

RE:
I heard nissan 300zx tt engines need aftermarket parts to keep them putting out their full potential?

Well think about this. Nissan chose to not add those accessories for a reason. Either money or in order to be more reliable. A BOV just releases pressure when you let the gas go. and a Turbo timer makes sure your turbo cools down before shutting down the motor. With that said it seems like a good idea getting those 2 things. It all just depends on how you drive the car. I just want you to know something from someone that has a 300zx. It is literally the hardest engine to work on. You will have TONs of shops/performance shops that will refuse to work on those motors. If you have mechanical knowledge I say get it. If not it will cost you a pretty penny. Just to change a gas line beneath the throttle cables took me 2 hours. Its a 3 inch line, but it was impossible to reach. You will also need to upgrade your turbos. If you want to get a Non-Turbo and do a TT swap think again. That will cost you around 7-10k just to do. Because you need to bend lines and mess around with alot more stuff. Also the wiring harness on the 300ZX aren't that great. Nissan is going to stop making those and many other parts for the 300zx so it will be hard to find parts. Not to also mention they were ALL made in Japan. So goodluck but if I were you I would get a VR4 or something along those lines.

Blow off valves and turbo timers help a car. They might have ment that the engine has alot of potential with aftermarket parts. A Nissan 300zx TT is a pretty quick car stock.

WE fnished in time for the Daytona Beach Z car nationals a 485 rear wheel horsepower 300ZX na to TT conversion There is a whole lot of Potential it takes a whole lot of cash to get it out and keeping a fire breathing monster on the road is $$$$. 1991 to 1996 USA and 1999 Japan 300zx are expensive to keep and restore. When they are right they can last a long time.
