The quote is saying that it is wise to stay practical and even a little detached. A wise girl would manipulate a situation for the best results. The last part is saying that before somebody leaves her or does something that will make her feel bad, she will do the action first. She ends up on top because she is practical and even though she is making somebody feel bad, she is avoiding her own displeasure.

The quote means that the girl leaves the guy before he has a chance to leave her. This gives the girl all the control and she does not get hurt. Some people may think this is wise, but I don't agree. If you never let your guard down, you will never be able to find love. If you are always focused on the bad, you will never find the good.

Read the book, "Why Men Marry B*tches". This book totally explains the quote. It is about women not being at a man's beck and call in the beginning stages of a relationship.

That last part means that if mentally the girl has no expectation she will not be hurt. It means she is to protect her heart from being hurt by the man if she is wise by being cynical at worst or careful at least.

i belive that it says a smart girl should not fall in love and trust a man. what it mean when t says "...and leaves, before she is left" is that she should not stay with a guy because then her spirt will be lost
