Cooking spirits have a very high salt content, thus making them not suitable for consumption. Not to mention it would taste really really nasty and not at all what you would expect it to.

Cooking wine and cooking brandy are made with large amounts of salt in them. This usually means they are not classified as spirits or wines and can be sold as a regular grocery product.
They taste awful. You would never pour salt into your dinner wine. Take a small sip of one of them and you'll understand why?

You should really not use them in cooking either. They take away your control of how much salt is being added. I would think them especially bad to use in a fruit cake.
Use drinkable, but not expensive wines and spirits in cooking. Much better, and you control the saltiness of dinner better.

I can only say: If you wouldn't drink it, don't cook with it. Use real brandy. You'll see what I mean. Your food will taste a LOT better.
