My little 6 yr old wanted to invite her entire class for a b'day party. There will also be the parents and some siblings as well. Being that I'm budget conscious, is it rude or poor etiquette to not hand out party favors? From past experience, it just ends up on the floor or the landfill.

I plan on feeding all 54 guests (27 children/ 27 adults) as well. There will be appetizers, pizza, cake and bottled juices/water/sodas. The venue is at an indoor playnasium, where they charge $7 per child admission.

So, party favors or not?

No, can you remember ANY of the giftbags you used to get at parties?

Put a bowl of candy out for the kids to grab on their way out
or even popcorn!

Since you are having a party at an playnasium you definitely do not have to have party favors. The parents appreciate the invite to begin with and knowing that it cost per person and you will have food and tokens or whatnot..I don't think the playasium would appreciate a bunch of kids throwing all that crap onto the floor of there business anyway(because you and I both know that's where it ends up, in on the floor then into the trash) so why throw your money in the trash

From what I understand the party favors are kind of like a thank you for the gift that the person gave to you.....in other words its not about the food or where you are holding the event because you will do that either way .........it is about receiving a gift and saying thank you for that gift..........so I guess as long as you dont expect the participants to bring a gift then favors are not necessary but if you do then I'd say you should run to the nearest dollar store and put some bags together...........it doesn't have to cost that much, you can do what i do......buy things that come in packages like erasers, pencils etc and spread them out, this way it is more like .10 cents per item rather than a whole buck....kids just love any bag they get and I can guarantee half of the parents expect you to give one even if they dont say it.

is there any way you can do a pinata? thats what i always do cause i always have large parties and never know exactly how many kids are coming so I just do the pinata and let 'em fight for the candy :)

or you could do pin the tail on the donkey w/ a prize for that
or
what about some cheap party bags you could fill them from stuff from the dollar store where you can get pretty cheap party favors like i think i saw 10 sunglasses for a dollar there or
maybe a balloon tied to a pencil for each kid

just some ideas - good luck i know parties are stressfull

54 guests is a lot for a six year old. The party will be very expensive, so party favors wont be a good idea. They will be too expensive. Kids that age love candy, and although the other parents may not be too thrilled with all the sugar, a bag of candy can never hurt.

have fun!

Look, I just had a combo party at GameWorks for my 8 and 10 year olds. They just invited a couple of their friends apiece.. I cant afford it either as a single Momma who gets NO CHILD SUPPORT and my X would NOT go in on with me. He is such an ^%&(*) !!! It is all they asked for!!! They wanted NO GIFTS!!!

Anyhow....I just went to the dollar store and they got a couple little things , but i always keep things on hand anyhow and then they added a bunch of goodies from their Halloween bags, and voila! Their treat bags!

But i say go for whatever you can afford. Its YOUR PARTY and you know what YOU can afford!!! and a playnasium is expensive!! I paid $15.00 a child per card and that was plenty, THEN took em for Pizza at LaRosa's Plus gettin em a drink which was $20.00 !!! Ridiculous!!! $20.00 for 6 kids!!!

So just follow your intuition, and i say thats alot of guest. youre a very brave woman!!!

no its not rude at all, and i wouldnt do favors especially if u r inviting that many people, most parties only have favors if there are like 12 or less kids and ur right they end up on the floor anyway, and good luck w/ the sugar crazed 6 yr olds

Dearly Dee, your party is more than enough. If you're worried that some children may ask at the end, let the parents know during the party that there won't be any and let those parents handle their own kids.
Have fun, and you deserve a little pampering after that one!

You don't have to buy party favors, as you are already feeding all of the children in the class and paying the admission fee to the gym.

It is not rude to not give out party favors, although many of the kids may or may not be expecting them, kids do love to receive a "goodie bag" at parties but it isn't rude to not give them out.
