I have a 40 GB ps3, and i wanted to play ps2 games on it. Someone told me that i could play ps2 games as long as i was connected to the internet on my PS3. However, other people have told me only the 20GB and 60GB can play PS2 games. If so is it possible to get a component added to my PS3 so i can play PS2 games?

Sadly no the 40gb PS3 can't play any PS2 games.

The 20 could, the 60 could, hell even the 80 kind of could, but the 40 has absolutely no ability to play any PS2 games.

Just another way of Sony shafting its customers... lol i'm still pissed about them not letting me use homebrew on my PSP easily.

No 40gb cant play PS2, it can play PS1, but not PS2. The 80gb can provided you update the software, and even then some games don't work. The 60gb is the best for playing PS2, as it plays most if not all games. I believe all PS3s play PS1 games if that is of any concern... No you cannot add anything to your 40gb to make it play PS2, you can only return it, and get an 80gb provided its been less than 30 days.

Unfortunately the 40GB PS3 doesn't play PS2 games and you can't change that. Only the 20GB, 60GB and 80GB can play PS2 games. You can however play PS1 games with your PS3.
