While I am a full-time barefooter, I don't require people to take off their shoes when they visit. I don't really like any shoe or footwear rules; it should be clear to anyone who reads these barefoot questions that there are people who're just as uncomfortable taking their shoes off as I would be wearing them. Why would I do that to them? A house is meant to be lived in, and my cats don't even wipe their feet when they come in... only when someone would have very muddy shoes, I'd ask them to do something about it, but whether they take their shoes off or use the outdoor hose is up to them.

Most of the people who visit me remove their shoes without being asked....I have very light carpeting, and my guests are conscientious of that. If they don't, I ask them to. If they're offended, they don't show it.
I personally don't care if you don't like to remove your shoes, because I also don't like having to fork out $100+ every three months to have my carpeting cleaned.

No, and I don't like being told to take off my shoes when I go to someone else's house either. If people want to take off their shoes, great. If not, that's fine too.

Yes, shoes off here. The carpet is warm and soft. Feel free to walk in your socks and be comfortable. :)

That is up to the host, and the host should politely ask so that there is no confusion regarding this.
