It all goes by what kind of dog food you feed them. For a full-grown Great Dane, they'll need to have about 3 cups, twice a day. Even though they are big dogs, they don't eat as much as people think they would. So, a 40lb bag of Science Diet would cost about $25-$30 and would last about 2 weeks. Innova which will cost about $50-$60 per 50lb bag would last close to a month since you won't feed it as much because it's a higher quality of food and has more calories and therefore don't need to eat as much.

I have a cattle dog that weighs 40 lbs. He goes thru a 24 lb bag of high quality food- blue buffalo- every 5 weeks. the bag says for dogs over 100lbs to feed it 5 and a half cups a day PLUS 1/2 cup for every 20 lbs the dog is over 100 lbs. So at minimum, the Dane would be eating double of what mine eats in 5 weeks.(not including the extra cup and a half a day if it weighs 160).. They also have a short life-span of 6-8 yrs.

That depends mostly on what you're feeding. A high quality food will cost more off the shelf per bag, but will cost less in the long run because you will have to feed less of it than you would a cheaper, lower quality food. Giant breeds such as Danes eat a LOT when they're growing, but once they reach adult-hood and stop growing they don't really eat as much as most people imagine.

My 7 month dane is eating 9 cups of dry food a day.
Currently I am feeding him Innova which is about $50.00 for 33 pound bag. I am guessing that a bag lasts about 3 weeks.

I had a great dane and they do not eat a whole bunch like people would think. My dog ate 2 cups of food twice a day and good name brand dog food can be bought for less than 20 bucks for a forty pound bag and the bag will last maybe 2 weeks.

We have a great dane bloodhound mix. He's only a year old and eats about 8 cups of food a day. We buy 20lb bags of his dog food every other week for about $15, depending on where you buy it. However we also spend about $10 every other week on raw hides for him too :)

My 6 month dane currently eats 9 cups per day of ChickenSoup For The DLS/ Adult food. He's skinny as a whip and would eat more if I let him.
Cheap food = feeding more = bigger piles in the yard to clean up.

I don't have a Great Dane but I do have 3 dogs with a combined weight of about 200 lbs. My 200 lbs' worth of dog go through a 30 lb bag of dog food about every 2 weeks. I don't know if that helps you or not...?

I don't think that they really eat that much. My best friend has a great dane and she only eats 4 cups of food once a day. She looks fantastic too!!
