What do you guys think about this quote I found while skimming through a book on the Ethics section of the public library:
"In the distant future, ove-promotion of same-sex matrimony has led into declining world population whilst over-influence of conversion to atheism has balanced this situation"
So, basically, the quote is saying: There will be a decrease in births since same-sex cannot reproduce, but the atheists (having no morality I guess?) will go on a wild sex-orgies and increase the population.
What do you think of this quote? What's your interpretation?
I think this is bull**** ' (although quite amusing to a degree) cuz same-sex couples can always choose artificial insemination via a host-donor. As for the atheist part, though they may not believe in religion doesn't mean they have no morals: just a different view of life. And they (atheists) can still be chaste after all.

Oh, forgot to add the point:
It's implying that the decrease of birthing from the LGBT community has been "augmented or supplemented" by increase of birth from the atheists. So the world population really just stays the same in the future. =(

BTW, I am a CHRISTIAN and though I don't approve of some atheists ways doesn't mean they are bad persons -- I can live with atheists as long as they don't force their way of life onto me.

To Mirabella: sorry I don't remember the name of the book 'cuz I was just taking books and flipping pages at random. Teh quote just happened to catch my eye 'cuz it was all neon-pink highlighted and really REALLY bright on the page. But for sure I found it on the Ethics section though! ^_^

Makes sense to me. Homosexuals aren't together for the purpose of pro-creation, but for self-satisfaction.
The athiest is not against God on principle, but because it interferes with their self-satisfaction.
The proliferation of both will most likely be just what that quote predicts.
'Can' and 'will' are two vastly different things!

Actually, I think you've missed the author's point. Your interpretation of his intent regarding atheists and birth rates is exactly backwards from what is seen in the real world (the most atheistic countries in the West today tend to be the most developed - and to have the lowest birth rates.)
I think what is meant is something like :
Same-sex marriage has reduced birth rates, but that's OK. Since people are leaving their religions in droves, rationalism is on the rise. Religion has stopped getting in the way of medicine, etc. So people are living longer, more satisfying lives. Instead of killing off our best and brightest in incessant tribalistic "holy" wars.

Stupid naive ignorant ranting. Typical of someone living in a small town buried in a rural community with no experience of a diverse range of people.
Atheism doesn't imply much in the way of changed behaviour, I don't see any massacres by atheists, no atheist porn or orgies. Just university educated chatty middle class talk..
No it's not true, gay people will adopt or inseminate and many of us will retreat into distant relationships over the Internet or with machines, games or robots. A decreased world population is urgently needed anyway...

Atheists don't do that now, so why would they in the future? What a crackpot. I may be a horny 15 year old, but jeez! That's a bit cynical, don't cha think? I'm not going to turn into a sex beast and bang every woman I see.
[edit]: I understand your extra details. But there really isn't anything special to the atheist lifestyle. We're just like normal people. There's nothing to "force" on you.

Total bull. Same sex couples are a few but will "never" be the majority. As to atheist morals. We know the truth. A lot of people say that, And those people have no idea what they are talking about.

World population hasn't declined. Population growth has slowed in the western world, mostly because of the opportunities, independence, and freedom that most women have.

Intellectually, "skimming a book in the ethics section of the public library" is far below "discussing the issue with my guppies."
However, it would be nice if the world population explosion slowed down, is that your point?

What a strange idea.
Most atheists I know tend to have modest-sized (averaging about 2 kids) families, not great big ones. For one thing, nothing is preventing them from using birth control if they wish.

I think it's hilarious. Like people actually choose to have same sex partners. And it seems to me people who go on "wild sex-orgies" would be using birth control.
