You have been misinformed.

Analog antenna signals will turn off Feb, 2009. If you use an antenna for standard def television, you will need a converter box.

This has nothing to do with HDTV. (But some salesmen are scaring people into buying HDTV with this mis-information).

Its what she said and you can still use your old TV. You might need the converter box for it. The government is giving each household 2 coupons for them. I think they are both either for $20 or $40 off a the receiver which costs about $60 each.
