841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."330

i am catholic. and i am burdened by this teaching. the Quran though professes to follow the faith of Abraham does it really? is the teaching saying that Allah is God? as a catholic this is totally unacceptable to me. Islam denies the divinity of Jesus therefore Allah is not God.

what year was the Catechism put together?

marysia...i do not believe for a sec that Mohammed was a true prophet. i understand the God of the OT is the same God of the NT with our jewish brother also denying the divinity of Christ. but islam puts words into Gods mouth (quran dictated by God) that is contrary to Himself (God of the OT &NT)if Allah is the SAME GOD.

i stand corrected. The Church does indeed teach that we believe in the same Creator. i was of the false belief that you prayed to some imaginery figment of Mohammed imagination. I dont however accept the Quran as scripture nor do i accept Mohammed as a true prophet

Jews, Christians, and Mulims all worship the one true God of Abraham.

Although we view the same God a bit differently.

Neither Jews not Muslims acknowledge the divinity of Jesus. Why are you singling out Muslims.

I suggest you read the Vatican II document "Nostra Aetate, the Declaration on the Relation of the church to Non-Christian Religions": http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decl_19651028_nostra-aetate_en.html

With love in Christ.

believe it or not -- the muslims and jews all have the same God. where things differ is in Jesus Christ being the fulfillment as the Messiah, our Lord & Saviour.

i had a nun in 9th grade teach us that - all the same God.

one thing i did notice when skimming the Koran looking for the OT similarities.... while the stories are similar there are some differences. it almost seemed like they took the more strict/violent side to things. kind of like only looking at the punishment your dad doled out as a kid and not the fun & love.

Basically, what the Catechism is teaching, is that we should have respect for other people's religious beliefs, even though we do not agree with them.

While we believe that Islam is wrong, because it rejects the Divinity Of Jesus, we must remember that Muslims still worship One God, & reject idolotry.

That is what ecumenism is all about: Agreeing to disagree.

They are accepting Muslims as part of the faith of Abraham due to the inclusion of some of the same scrolls in both Faiths' sacred texts. Both of them start the same.
Hey - it's your faith's catechism, man! You don't get to rewrite it just because of a terrorist act by some members of one Faith.

The council says that they profess... it does not say that they do have the faith of Abraham.

And they adore the one and only God.
But they do not know of the Trinity.

The 'word of God' was written by men. Believe what suits you and wake up after death and all arguments will be settled.
