you see, for the past almost 2 months, we have been applying to colleges at school. i am actually in this class that is all about getting into college, and i have classmates that have come various walks of life, including "undocumented" students. i personally know every classmate of mine, and i know many of them are illegally in this country....many of them are very intelligent and they have worked hard all our high school years. now, they arent going to be ab;le to get into a university....and as much as im an anti (as some of you may know), i still have a heart and seeing that doesnt make me feel good. many of them have been here since they were only about 2 years old or so, and they have worked hard in school.
but then i think, and i ask myself: WHO should be feeling bad about this?? should i?? should others citizens and legal immigrants be feeling guilty about this? i believe the parents are to blame for this happening to their children. what do you think??

why wouldnt the parents have any of the blame(if not all!) given that they knew right before they came here that what they did by crossing here illegally is AGAINST THE LAW??

First, I do not feel guilty at all, nor should any other citizen...although much blame falls on our own government in regards to the present immigration mess, the main blame for the situation that you outlined does indeed belong to the parents. These people arent totally devoid of intelligence, they knew they were breaking the law...hence they also knew there would be consequences to their own actions...yes, it is a shame that children are put into this position....but lets put the blame right smack dab where it belongs...the Parents....
For those of you who say, well your lucky enough to have been born here...yeah? so what? My parents paid school taxes for me, and now I am paying them for mine, and now for every other person who doesnt belong here either...so tough! You dont like it? Then YOU pay for them then....

Yes, I'd blame the parents. I understand that America, while not perfect, can give some immigrants a life they could never have back in their homeland, but if they decide to move here and let their children grow up with this culture, they should do all the necessary things for it, like becoming legal and learning about the culture, language, etc. I'm very adamant about people living here learning to speak English and hate it that people are starting to emphasize Spanish. I'm sorry, but I'll learn Spanish when I start living in a country that speaks it (and in your own home, speak whatever you want), but here in America, we speak English, learn it, at least for the sake of store workers! Anyways, this is a sad story. Those parents, if they wanted the best for their children and brought them here for that reason, should've done what they had to do, to let their children succeed, including getting their green card. I had a friend who was raised by an Egyptian father (I'm not saying all Egyptian's are bad, just to clarify) and was raised with the American culture. She had crushes on boys, studied at public school (that's how I met her), and had your typical American girl sleepovers. Then at 14, she was shipped off to Egypt to marry someone twice her age who she'd never met before! She was totally blindsided and devastated, because her father never prepared her for that. Things like that aren't fair to children. Last I heard from my friend she was still married and has many children, but it took her a really long time to adjust. Really, parents, think of everything you need to do for your children, and then do it. Nothing will be handed to them, unless you help them!

Unfortunately the parents took a risk coming into this country illegally, and now their children end up paying the price. However, the parents also got their children a free education that they otherwise wouldn't have got any where else at another countries tax dollar expenses. Again unfortunately, their children will not be able to further their education unless they are willing to come up with their own funds to go to college, or a private college.

You know, we have had our differences, but, I think you are right on about this, dear. It is a horrible situation.
The only ones to BLAME is the parents. Period. They are the ones that brought the children here and they were put in a bad place. No one else is to blame. However, feeling sympathy for someone in a bad situation is human. They had no choice in coming here, and, now must "pay for the sins of the fathers".
If you want to help them, there are schools that they can go to. They will have to pay the out-of-state tuition (which is high), and, won't qualify for grants or work study, but, the can study. The question becomes though, what good does it do them to get a degree if they can't be employed once they have it? This is a horrible situation for these kids. But, ultimately their parents are the only wants that bare responsibility for the childrens' position.

Seems to me the parents only wanted a better life for themselves and use the kids for an excuse.
If they really cared about the kids future they would have been legal so the kids could go to school and create a real life for themselves instead of having to live life as a criminal.
Selfish parents.

I don't feel guilty. The parents ARE to blame and should feel shame and guilt, but they have no shame. The law eventually catches up. Tough.
Our govt is to blame, too. Quite simply, if our govt enforced the immigration laws, illegals would not be here. Currently, our govt rewards the illegals for breaking the law.

I believe that their parents wanted a better life for their children and I'm happy that are even considering college. But they can go to college I know some girls who are illegal and go to the same college I do.

I think the illegal's parents should be feeling the guilt. Remember that every illegal who gets into college is taking a space that a citizen or a legal alien could get, so I do not think such kids should automatically be allowed into college. If the parents took the actions to become citizens or legal aliens, their kids would not have this problem.

Parents that involve their kids in the illegal mess are to blame. The guilt belongs to them.

the illegal parents are to blame. my 15 year old daughter want to be a Dr. she makes nothing but A's in school. it is going to cost half a million to educate her in th medical field. i don't think it's fair a united states born child is being left behind for illegals kids. my child is all ready talking to the navy about joining just to be a Dr. IS THAT FAIR TO UNITED STATES KIDS WHO'S PARENTS HAVE PAYED IN TO THE SYSTEM BEFORE THEY WAS BORN??
i don't care about illegals. let them go back to their own country and get educated.
