Good question! The Bible doesn't tell us whether Cain had a wife before or after he killed his brother. His wife isn't mentioned until it is said that he traveled to Nod (Gen. 4:16).

She may have been from Nod.

The Bible does not specifically say who Cain’s wife was. The only possible answer was that Cain's wife was his sister or niece or great-niece, etc. The Bible does not say how old Cain was when he killed Abel (Genesis 4:8). Since they were both farmers, they were likely both full-grown adults, possibly with families of their own. Adam and Eve had surely had more children than just Cain and Abel at the time Abel was killed - they definitely had many more children later (Genesis 5:4). The fact that Cain was scared for his own life after he killed Abel (Genesis 4:14) indicates that there were likely many other children and perhaps even grandchildren or great-grandchildren of Adam and Eve at that time. Cain's wife (Genesis 4:17) was a daughter or granddaughter of Adam and Eve.

Since Adam and Eve were the first (and only) human beings, their children would have no other choice than to intermarry. God did not forbid inter-family marriage until much later when there was enough people that intermarriage was not necessary (Leviticus 18:6-18). The reason that incest often results in genetic abnormalities in children is that when two people of similar genetics (i.e. a brother and sister) have children – genetic defects are far more likely to result because both parents had the same defects themselves. When people from different families have children – it is highly unlikely that both parents will have the same genetic defects. The human genetic code has become increasingly “polluted” over the centuries as genetic defects are multiplied, amplified, and passed down from generation to generation. Adam and Eve did not have any genetic defects, so that enabled them and the first few generations of their descendants to have a far greater quality of health than we do now. Adam and Eve’s children had few, if any, genetic defects. As a result, it was safe for them to intermarry. It may seem strange or even disgusting to think of Cain's wife being his sister. In the beginning, since God started with one man and one woman, the second generation would have no choice but to intermarry amongst themselves.

you're not from around here are you? that question has been asked and answered more times than a first grader is asked to repeat their ABC's. Please take note---there are nearly 700 days in a row where that question has been asked and answered. If you are a baby Christian trying to figure out what the bible says---I suggest you go into the book of Genesis and start reading. In less than 6 days Adam is on the scene and shortly thereafter God decided he needed a helpmeet. (today we translate that to wife.) So---go on from there and look at the terms used---Adam and Eve begat Cain and Abel and Seth---and so on and so on and so on. How old is too old not to have a baby----Eve was the first woman and I don't read anywhere in the word that says she with through menopause at age 50.....so don't let your imagination run wild. They were begetting and begatting a LONG LONG TIME. :-)

Just my opinion.

Oh yeah---and the King James Version, New International Standard Version, Ryrie Study and Dake's Bible. :-) But other than that---I don't have a clue. ;-)

Cain, Able, and Seth are the only children by name. That doesn't mean that they were the only children though. Being the only pair, Adam and Eve had to produce the other kids including Cain's wife. This means that Cain married his sister.

LOL- the issue with this question is obvious. According to the bible - they must of married their sister's right? Except that if they were marrying their sisters, they must have not had to go searching for a wife...

"And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch."

Hmmmmm.... well, his sister wouldn't have left home without being wed- so his wife must not be his sister. who was she?

"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."

So in the bible there were people... that were not descendants of adam and eve. Probably living in Nod.

LOL

Cain's wife was one of his many brothers daughter's, Adam and Eve had a lot of children in the almost 1000 years they lived after being kicked out of the garden of Eden.

The first man was Adam. The first woman was Eve. Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and Abel. And Adam and Eve also had another son (after Cain killed Abel). His name was Seth. And Adam and Eve also had other sons and DAUGHTERS. This is where Cain's wife came from. (it wasn't incest then. They had to populate the earth, and it was ok for them to do so.)

Of course from the family of Adam and Eve and maybe his own sister but he do not know her because he was driven out from the garden of eden and for sure, all the descendants of adam and eve have spread the whole nation at that timne through the power of God.

like all history we've studied, in the past people practiced incest. God did not say incest is bad until later in time. In the beginning, people bore many children. People believe Adam and Eve only bore Abel and Cain because they were the only two mentioned. However, only they were mentioned because God was trying to teach a lesson through THEM, making others not as notable. So yah, Adam and Eve had much more children then just 2.

You only have to read like the first 4 pages of the bible to get an answer to your question. Adam and Eve did have other children.
