I was wondering if a dermatologist can take one look at your skin and determine the extent of sun damages, Can they also take one look at moles and skin lesion to see if there is any possibility of skin cancer. Is it stupid to not trust your dermatologist?

This is their specialty. I'm sure there would be differences among dermatologists, but this would be a big part of their work.

Technically speaking, yes; they should be able to do all of that. All the ones I have seen suck! If you have the means I would see a plastic surgeon that also treats skin cancers. That is what I finally did, with great results.

They're very good at what they do.

Remember though they're not all created equal......so make sure you check credentials.
