Check out Open Office Impress (http://www.openoffice.org/product/impress.html) It is a Powerpoint compatible presentation system, and will save in powerpoint format. Should allow you to get the job done. Otherwise, look for Microsoft Office Home Office/Student edition, it's cheaper than buying full office ($150).

You buy it.
If you need powerpoint for a job then the employer should supply it. If you need it for school - the school cannot make you buy it.
