Get your hands on some used speakers (as from an old stereo sound system) and remove the magnets from the speakers. These magnets are very powerful. Put two of them together and you will be lucky to be able to pull them apart.

I have some 6" dia. x about 1/2 " thick magnets that were removed from spekers and every once in a while they come in handy.

Try some magetron magnets - those things are killer!

Radio Research is a company that sells used stuff like that.

google NdFeB and SmCo. NdFeB is the strongest permanent magnet known and SmCo was the strongest known until NdFeB was discovered. They are available and they are expensive and they are somewhat dangerous because they are so strong (big ones can give you a good blood blister if they pinch your fingers).

check http://www.dansdata.com/ for strong magnet info. Be aware that they are not cheap, and can be dangerous.
