I know someone that has not paid taxes in over 12 years. Can someone tell me how I should go about reporting this person and what will happen once I report this perspn?

Before you drop that time, though, be sure that you have EVIDENCE to back up your claim. If you call the IRS and say, "John Smith at 123 Any Street isn't paying his taxes." and don't provide some information to back your claim it's not likely that it will go anywhere.

Now, if you work for him and are his bookkeeper they might be much more receptive of your call. But keep in mind that if you're his bookkeeper and part of your job responsibilities were to pay the taxes, YOU are also personally liable if they weren't paid. Nice little Catch-22 there but it is true.

If this is just a blow-hard that brags that he never pays taxes, just let it go. I know a couple of folks who make that claim. One has no tax liability and the other has taxes withheld from his pay but refuses to file. He's lost thousands in refunds over the years. Stupid is as Stupid does.

If you have concrete information, go to irs.gov, download form 3949 and send it in (that's all the 1-800-829-1040 line will do is send you the form).
