The breed is called the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.

Called the "Wheaten" for short. There are not two different breeds.

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a "regular" wheaten terrier. The breed name is Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, some people simply drop the "soft coated" part for simplicity's sake and to make it shorter. The breed was named because the coat color is wheaten and unlike most other terrier breeds they have a soft outer-coat instead of harsh wiry guard-hairs.

There is only the soft coated wheaten terrier; there is no regular wheaten terrier. The coat is a distinguishing characteristic of the breed which sets the dog apart from all other terriers. An abundant single coat covering the entire body, legs and head; coat on the latter falls forward to shade the eyes. Texture soft and silky with a gentle wave. In both puppies and adolescents, the mature wavy coat is generally not yet evident. Major Faults--Woolly or harsh, crisp or cottony, curly or standaway coat; in the adult, a straight coat is also objectionable.

There isn't a 'regular' wheaten Terrier. Here in the US we only have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. It's just faster to say Wheaten Terrier.

there is no such thing as a regular wheaten terrier. The breed is called the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and anything else is just wrong.
