I don't think Mark Martin could force himself to win a race in 2008, driving the #8 car. Espescially if he was in contention with the #88 car.

More than enough Guts!!!! I hate disagree with you but I have drove against Mark In ASA Camaros back in the late 70s early 80s and you give him a car good enough to win and he will if in 2nd he will do whatever he can to pass. Plenty of GUTS he was driving long before all the safety stuff they have now. And His Loyalty is with DEI Not HMS and Jr. Jr. has done nothing for Mark!!!!!

Since Mark Martin began racing at the Cup level, the #8 has been driven by Bobby Hillin Jr. (for nine years), Rick Wilson, Dick Trickle, Sterling Marlin, Jeff Burton, and Hut Stricklin, among others. Oh, and most recently by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Ask Mark or any other veteran driver if the number 8 has some mystical power that might deprive him of his "guts." You'll get a funny look.

Between the two of them, who won more races in 2007?
Between the two of them, who had the better average finish in 2007?

Now do the same numbers for career averages. Why would Mark Martin not be able to "force himself to win a race?"

You think he is the type to bow out of a race because of the "legend" of Jr. Give me a break. Mark Martin is far more accomplished and respected than all but a few of the racers still able to climb into a car. Glad to see Bill Elliot back in the saddle for a few in 2007. How things have changed in his days of racing.

If I owned a Cup car, there's darn few drivers I'd rather have in my race car than Mark Martin. He can't see the number on the side from behind the wheel. I just wish he spent more time driving a Chevy during his career, he'd probably have a few Cup championships.

If he's in the 8, he's got the guts to win. Like him or not, and I don't, Mark Martin can drive.

I think Mark Martin would take the checker flag in a heart beat. He is a very hungry race car driver right now. He almost had the Daytona 500 last year and would have been in the chase if he would have run the whole schedule.

Mark is going to give it his all, he says he is happy to be driving for DEI....Mark Martin doesn't care what # of car he drives as he will drive as hard as he can to win...It would be cool to see Mark in the 8 and Dale Jr in the 88 go at it for a win in 2008....

Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2008

There is no questioning Mark Martin's intestinal fortitude but one might question the reliability of the powerplants being used by DEI. Does DEI have the determination to get their program back on track is the real question here. After both the 1 and 8 (and later on the 01) cars ran up front a lot DEI was left with only 1 win.

In a word, YES!

Neither Mark Martin or Dale Jr. give a damn about what number he drives.
Mark Martin is a very good race car driver, and should do well while he's behind the wheel of the #8.
