You don't unless you are tested (mammogram, etc.)

One of the first signs is an odd lump in the breast, usually felt toward the armpit -- however, these can also just be benign cysts.

There is such a thing as suspicion of breast cancer and the reasons for suspicions are any changes what so ever in your breast. Until you have a biopsy there is no sure way of knowing. Surgical biopsy and needle biopsy are the two types of biopsy's. There are two types of needle biopsy's aspiration is where they use a fine needle to remove a sample of cells. Core biopsy is where they use a larger needle to remove a piece of tissue.

If you notice any changes in your breast or underarm or feel anything or see anything that is not normal. Go get checked. you will not know until they had done a biopsy. The biopsy will tell if the tumor is cancerous or not. Hope this helps.

you wont be able to just KNOW.. did you feel a lump in your breast? Make a doctors appt. he/she will determine if it is a lump that needs to be removed via surgery if possible
