I think yes, I think that it is only a stepping stone to the end time scenario. You are right, it will be said "peace, peace", however it will be a FALSE peace. I really think that the next President of the United States will be the one to push the peace process through hand in hand with the EU. Tony Blair may be significant possibly. This will make places like Iran and Russia very angry at the US and the EU, as it will be a strike against the power they desire. So this particular peace deal may start the war of Gog-Magog.

This prophecy also has another incident in mind. When Jerusalem (the Holy City) was surrounded by Roman soldiers. Inside the city was chaos. Even references of people eating their babies! Then, suddenly, the Romans left. Was it Jeremiah who warned them to flee the city? I'm not sure who the prophet was without looking it up, but he warned the people to run to the hills, not to take anything with them, just run. The people though, didn't listen. They rejoiced that the Romans left, and were shouting peace. The Romans came back days later and left nothing alive.
One translation of this Revelation prophecy is thus. First the Great Tribulation must occur. This is most likely to be what it was like in Jerusalem under siege. Revelations warns that if this time is not cut short, nothing would be left alive on the planet! But the Great Tribulation will pass (it's onset is the devouring of Babylon the Great (aka false religion) of the Beast (aka governments) ) and then people will forget and start shouting Peace Peace again, looking to human leaders to make the world a better place. That is when Armageddon strikes.
There are many ways to interpret these symbols, but the sure thing is that the Day is coming.

Yes the Bible teaches that the Anti-Christ will bring in a false peace to the world for a short period of time 31/2 yrs. This will be after Jesus comes in the clouds and calls the true believers out. After this the Tribulation Period begins. And it will begin with the Anti-Christ rising to power. Even Israel will finally have the peace that they have sought so long. But It will be a false peace. After the first 31/2 years are over then the Anti-Christ will enter into the rebuilt Jewish temple and demand that everyone bow down and worship him as God.

And then it is going to get bad! very very very BAD! God is going to show everyone that he is God.

they are definitely talking about "peace and security". in 1 thessalonians the bible says that the end will come when people are saying we have peace and security, hence it will be unexpected and disturbing when Jesus returns in glory and judgement and destruction.
