if so, how do you know when its okay?

if not, does that mean if you are in germany during the nazi regime and the authorities come to ask if you are housing jews you gotta go with the bible and NOT LIE?

do cut and dry commandments rob us of the ability to excercise our own moral judgement?

There are ways around lying without disclosing the information. One could say in the case of are you hiding Jews..."Do you see any Jews here?" Or you could just let them search and say nothing( hoping their hiding spot would not be found)... they would anyway. If you are really intent on not lying, God will give you just the right words to speak so you will not have to.

I do believe that they are suppose to be kept all the time....am I capable on my own? No... That's what Jesus is for.

EDIT: Is bearing false witness against our neighbor the same as lying to protect them? I assume this is the One out of ten your are referencing here.

The ten commandments are not required of Christians, seeing as they were never a party to that covenant law.

Your example though is a good one.

A Christian does whatever it takes to demonstrate love for others, even if it means lying.

The midwives of Israel lied to pharaoh regarding the male children born to Israelite women while they were slaves in Egypt, and God commended them for it.

not trying to offend any one but... if you take them literally the 10 commandments are a good example of do what I say ... not as I do.... if you take them as guide lines than yes there are reasons to break them.... I believe that they were ment to be guides only....
you will know that it is OK when the alternative is worse than breaking the rule.... there are times when if you don't break the rule you will be watching another rule being broken... you have to use your own moral judgment.... that is why we all have brains.....

NO! It is not O.K.
Many Jehovah's Witnesses died or were in concentration camps because GOD said though shalt not kill! and they would not! 6000 to be exact.
WW1 was the same even in the United Stated and Canada they were imprisoned because Jesus said His Kingdom is no Part of this world, and the Witnesses followed.
In Africa in the 1990's in Malawi, They would not expose or aid in the killing of their fellow Christians, no matter which tribe they were from.Hutu hid Tutsi, and the reverse was true also.
THOU SHALT NOT KILL....means EVER!!! no NEVER!!!!
It is who we are, we will and have gone to prison and died rather than break GODS laws!

As long as you can get 7 out of 10 then you can pass with a "C"

Let love be your guide. There is also the commandment of Do Not Kill. Outing a Jewish family would be the equivalent of killing them.

I consider the 10 C's more like... guidelines... (reference to Pirates of the Caribbean). basically they outline the things you should do. If you're Christian then they are the rules you need to follow to appease their God.

It depends on who you are worried about. If you are worried about God then no it is not acceptable. If you are worried about society there are a couple of ones you should stick to. If you don't care about anything then you can break them all.

All of the 10 commandments are breakable, as long as the government tells you its okay...

War. War. War. War. (that's me chanting)

According to Christianity, you can do anything you want as long as you're sorry for it. Sounds like a pretty unbalanced and sociopathic form of morality to me.
