if you had a neighbor with a dog in renal failure who is frequently asking you to come over to walk and feed his dog when he takes off for the day. Today I went over and there was a note to feed her food from the refrigerator. I grabbed a white bowl which he usually leaves to put her food in, uncovered the food, it looked like a meat/veggie meal and I put it down. She wasn't too interested, ate some, I put it back to find a pink doggie bowl with her food. YIKES wrong food. No phone number to call him, no vet's number, no one to contact. I've been over twice now because I don't want her to get diarrhea or vomit. There was a note for another neighbor to take her out to poo. I'm annoyed because he's too cheap to use a dog walker and leaves his old renal dog at home for the neighbors to take care of (I pay a dog walker).

Thanks guys ... I already knew that I'm not doing it again, just venting. This was my wake up call, dawg forbid I ever go over there and the dog is really sick or worse dead, I have no way to get ahold of him. He'll have to stay home like I would if I had a dog in renal failure.

Hi 2Westies. I don't think giving the dog that food will harm her, but you could ring any vet and check. It wouldn't matter if it wasn't the dog's usual vet, but any vet would be able to let you know if you just tell them the situation.
Besides that, I think you are being more helpful to your neighbour than he deserves. If I was in your situation, I would say 'No' in future. If he asks for a reason, tell him you're busy, or any other reason you like. Bear in mind that it doesn't matter if he doesn't believe your reason. Sometimes it's better if people don't believe your reason, because they then get the hint quicker that you aren't going to be their unpaid helper. If he asks again, just say 'No' each time, and he will stop asking soon enough.
You said that there was a note for another neighbour to take the dog out to go to the toilet. I'm wondering whether the dog is okay if it's stuck in the house, as dogs with renal failure urinate a lot and I hope the dog isn't uncomfortable holding the urine for that long. If you think that could be an issue, it might be a good idea to let the neighbour know the dog needs to be able to get outdoors more often, or maybe even be left outside if they have a fence.
Best of luck.

Yes. Very. I would question whether, since he doesn't seem to be able to take care of this dog without help from someone he isn't paying (which he should be, by the way), he is the best carer for this dog. I would confront him gently, and tell him he should find someone who he can pay to take care of his dog. If this is not possible for his budget, I would suggest to him that he find a new home for the dog. This is likely not to work, but I hope this helps in someway!

I think the proper thing to do, would be to let him know your feelings about the situation. It is probably very convenient for him to have someone so close to take are of his pet, and he should be willing to pay a small fee for your services, or at least for your time. Its very nice of you to think of the animal, if it asn't gotten sick already, chances are it wont but good thinking on your part. He probably loves the dog very much if he hasn't put it to sleep already. But like I said, it isn't wrong to as for money, and it isnt rude or anything like that. Also next tim he should leave you numbers in case of emergency. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about one wrong meal. His fault not yours.
In the future, tell him you're not available. Keep telling him no. Eventually he will get the hint. It's OK to say no. As for the other neighbors, it's up to them if they want to keep being used by this guy.

Haven't you ever hear that old line = Just Say No! And by the way, he's not cheap, he knows he's got suckers for neighbors.

It's not your dog.
Don't help- unless you feel sorry for the dog.
