Most that I know would just say friend if it is someone that they are not romantically interested in but go ahead and ask if you are interested in them.

If they are in an open relationship that doesn't have any clearly defined bounds, then she may refer to him as a "guy friend." Or if he's gay, or she just doesn't have anything more than a platonic interest in him. Otherwise, never. I would never refer to my boyfriend as a "guy friend." That would be like a woman calling her husband a boyfriend. It not only disrespects the nature of the relationship, but it also significantly diminishes the depth of the relationship.
Something else to consider:
Maybe he is her boyfriend, but she likes you too. So, to make her relationship with whomever else seem platonic or unimportant, she refers to him as her guyfriend when she talks to you about him. This is a sticky situation, do not get involved until it is made clear what kind of relationship they are in. The best way to find out: ask her, plain and simple. This doesn't mean ask her out (because she could say yes knowing full well that she has a boyfriend), or ask her how long she's known him or anything else that beats around the bush. Just ask and if she is honest (this means you may want to stick with her), then she will say yes or no, and then you can go from there.

I wouldn't be concerned if I were you. If you are her friend and he was really more than a friend, she probably would have said so. Plus, if she's smart, she wouldn't be moving in with a guy that she is calling a "guy friend".
I say that you should take a chance and ask her out! There's no day like today!!!

sounds like a friend who is just a guy. But why not ask her what's up with that? Can't hurt to ask, in an, "oh by the way" kind of manner.

Usually a guy friend is just a friend, but to be on the safe side I would ask her point blank, if I were you. You do not want to mess it up by thinking that he is a bf when he is not. Could not hurt to ask her.

I guess a "guy friend" could be considered a boyfriend. I think she was making the point to you that she has a "friend" that is a "guy" so you don't think she has a boyfriend.
You can always ask her if she is taken.
Good Luck.

Well if she specified it as guy friend I'd think she was trying to make it clear it was NOT a boyfriend, actually.
My bestfriend is a guy and we're super close. We talk about moving in together and stuff, and I have to say 'guy friend' all the time, because if I don't, people always say "Is he your boyfriend?"

Depends on how it sounded when she answered you! If she didn't studder on her words or hold on long enough to figure out how she was going to say it, then yes it is just a friend and most likely was making a point, depending on how old both of you are, go for it, what do you have to loose??

Just a guy that is a friend, but if they move in together it could turn into more.
