I personally do not celebrate Christmas, because it is pagan, but I have noticed that those who do celebrate this holiday, get stressed out and very depressed during Christmas.
I think people put high expectations on this pagan day, and each year they get disappointed. Some attached some childhood nastalgia to the holiday, and they realize that they are no longer children, and that the day does not bring them joy at all.

You kind of already answered this yourself. I think there can be many reasons why people get depressed. Not having enough money to buy gifts for loved ones would be depressing. Not being with family. Missing someone who passed away and won't be sharing the holiday with you.
The stores don't help any. Decorations go up earlier every year, rushing things along. There's a huge build up to Christmas, but for most people, once the presents are unwrapped, that's it. It can be a let down.
Not everyone who celebrates Christmas gets depressed during the holidays.

Wow, I have seen a couple here and there. Your statement sounds as if everyone you have seen that celebrates it is depressed. I think it often affects those who are older and whose family is gone, and maybe some single people who don't have spouse or family to celebrate it with.

You are right too many do have high expectations.
People want to give things they can't afford. The people that are dead or moved away are missed more. Just don't get caught up in the "down side" Have a very Merry Christmas..no matter what your religious beliefs are!

aside from the financial bind people put themselves into during Christmas..
it's the stress of families getting together (and the family politics)
for other's it's a reminder that they don't have a family to share Christmas with

Some of us, mostly me, has no family. I live alone. I tend to go low, but I never stay low long, For I have Jesus with me.
And I'm not Pagan......I don't dance around a campfire in the nude. I'm a Christain And I don't believe you.

I don't get depressed, I get angsty.
By November 2nd I'm sick of the decorations, advertisements, and blaring music.... and it's only been 1 day that it's all been up.
They all throw the smae message at you:
