you can still be intelligent and swear, i dont care about people thinking I'm smart, most cases (in highschool) its a bad thing. as long as i truly am, i don't need to prove it to others.

from the answers i got, ive learned to just consider your enviornment. such as dont swear if there is a chance kids are around u. other than that i still see nothing wrong with it.

From time to time most of us do it. Thing is we try to curb it depending who is around you.
I understand that if you are in a peer group then it becomes habit, or if you are in the barracks room with men you do it. But to be honest when you are older it can offend.
There are always groups of people that you make sure dont hear you for instance would you swear at your Mother or Father, hopefully you would not its just out of respect.
The same goes for your Parents, they should not swear at you.
I often wonder who makes up these words and who decides what is bad and not acceptable, and at what point in our history did the word change into something bad.
Its a funny things about words and the old saying that "A pen (or word) can be mightier than the sword". Which is true, a few wrong words can upset somebody so much that there is no going back.

It's an arbitrary social stigma with no root in practical morality or ethics. Calling it "swearing" doesn't even make sense. That said, you should probably only use such words in the company of people who you know are comfortable with it. Regardless of whether or not it's fair or justified, the stereotype of those who use profanity as being stupid or having a limited vocabulary is very real in many situations, and it's generally beneficial socially to avoid getting slapped with such labels due to something so trivial and avoidable.

When someone swears in front of a group of people (in high school), they usually think it's cool, or they're trying to get attention because they have learned that swearing works. However, swearing (cussing) is also seen as a sign of immaturity or lack of mental control when dealing with a situation. Later on down the road, those whose lack of mental control in situations and don't overcome that issue are more likely to not be as successful as they would be had they more restraint and composure in situations requiring quick judgment or rational thinking. It can drag you down, even in the workplace. Most of all, it shows a lack of respect for other peoples' moral values and makes others lose some respect for the swearer. Look at the language set of the successful students in relation to the future drop-outs, and you will understand.

Swearing even to yourself is wrong, it's an expression of basic emotions that you're not in control of so you just say an angry/negative expletive to get the emotion out. If they're not negative, why not just use a different word? if it's just vocab then pic up your dictionary and find a better word. I bet if you were challenged to learn a new word everyday and use it in place of your expletive, you'd either not do it of stop after the first few words. why is that? after all they're just words. Well the reason you wouldn't is because you can just use any word to express the anger that F*** can express so you limit you expression to one little word that you can't transcend and bring your consciousness down to the level of that little word. Swearing for swearing sake is a waste of energy buddy. pick up a book. learn new words. learn to express yourself. Learn to control your anger by calming down and breathing or reasoning things out instead of just lashing out with a curse word when you're mad. Think my friend. Think more swear less. There are better ways to vent anger. talk it out, play a sport , write, pray...buit do something more positive that just cursing.

Yes, it is disrespectful. The facts are that it does bother a great many people, but you don't care as long you can have your "right" to prove your ignorance and inability to use the language you are speaking in properly. There is nothing out there that needs to be said that can not be said without using certain words. And what is more, such words and language, affect the way that you think about things, because that is the way we think, we talk to ourselves. Use foul language and you will have foul thoughts, it is as simple as that. And foul thoughts have destroyed more live than cancer, I guarantee you!

Many people are brought up to believe that polite language is a way to show others that they respect them. For example, even if a person was joking when they called me a *****, I would not find it amusing. Additionally, while it doesn't cause cancer, using those choice 4 letter words will get you fired once you enter the professional world.

I'm not proud of it but I use to swear. In my opinion, when a person lets curse/swear words roll off their tongue, it just shows a lack of sophistication and education. Just think about it, it's usually, most of the time, lower class people that swear a lot. More classy people don't. I know how I look at people out in public when they talk like that especially in public and all I can think of is redneck and hoosier. Also, is that an example of what you want to set if there are smaller children in your family, whether they be brothers/sisters or cousins, etc? Then when they get in trouble for saying something they heard you say and the parent says where did you hear that and they say you, there's one more strike against you. Just some food for thought. I hope you think about it.

I dont get it. Its a great way to vent out anger. After all, holding onto anger can be bad for your health so cussing your head off is a great remedy. Works for me.

A person who uses profanity is a person who doesn't know how to think and beleives this to be the only way to express him/herself to get their point across. Yes, it IS disrespectful and boorish.
