Why do you need a program? Just hook both computers up to each other and transfer the files, how easy is that. The other one is a laptop, just bring it in the room, so simple.

You can do it yourself.

First of all, disable ALL firewalls on both computers and run the Network Setup Wizard on the Windows XP computer first. You can find it in Control Panel. It's extremely simple and easy, just follow the steps.

The Vista computer is where it gets a little complicated. The Network and Sharing Center is where you will find all the information you need.. Also in Control Panel (Classic View).

Make sure, however, that, when prompted, you put the exact same name in the "workgroup" box when setting up the network. It doesn't matter what you put, just make sure it's the same name on both computers. MSHOME is the default on your Windows XP machine and I think WORKGROUP is the default on the Vista machine, I'm not sure.

To share a folder, right click on it and go to properties and select the sharing tab at the top and check the box that says "Share this folder on the network."

To access shared folders over the network, go to My Network Places (can be found in My Computer and in same cases, on your start menu. On the side of this window, there should be a selection that says "View workgroup computers." You should be able to see the other computer from that screen. If you try to connect to it and it tells you that you don't have permission, please be sure that you have all firewalls disabled or set up for sharing purposes.

I'm sure this is probably extremely confusing, but you can do it yourself! No need for any expensive programs.. if any of the sort even exist. =)

If you're both sharing the same internet connection, you can transfer files at fast speeds using Aol Instant Messenger. It is a free chat program tha I'm sure you have. Most people have it.

As for the answer above "Just connect it", that's pretty vague. You can use a crossover cable.

Or if you've already set up a homenetwork between the computers, put it in the "Shared folders" folder. and the other computer will be able to see it and compy it over.

If you aren't satisfied using a usb flashstick or direct cable connections then and your computers are configured for file/printer sharing you can just click your "My network places " icon then choose view workgroup computers from the left bar
and click the desired computer you want to transfer files to.
in windows xp there is a folder that is shared by default called "Shared documents" drag and drop anything you need to copy in there and it will copy to the chosen computer. then they will reside in the other comptuers "Shared documents" folder
