There are a few free credit discussion boards where you can learn how to repair your credit yourself.

I've been to many of them and, in my opinion, the best two are creditboards.com and creditinfocenter.com.
(creditboards is my favorite and I have a link to their forums in my profile on here)

Both sites are non spam sites and are free to read, ask questions on and use the information (sample letter templates, etc)
Both sites have been active for a number of years and have many members that have been there, done that.
(creditboards alone has over 56,000 members)

These sites are scams.

Get a FREE copy of your credit report

Look at it in detail.

Are there any mistakes. If so, write to the credit agency with back up that it's wrong. They are required by law to fix correct mistakes in a set number of days.

Do you have judgements or liens? Can you pay them off? If yes, talk with the company/person you owe money to and see if you can settle the debt for less then you owe. Start at 25% of the total debt. If yes, make sure you get it in writing and that it shows the debt has been paid in full. Keep this letter forever!. Send a copy to the credit agency.

If you can't get a lower payment, then pay it in full.

While you are paying judgements, make sure that you are ALLOWS on time paying your current debt.

You also need to look at by you are in debt and work on a budget.

There is NO magic to fixing your credit. It will take time and effort.
