If you can afford it, look at getting a professional alarm system. If you can't affort that, look at the places someone can get in and put blocks for that type of entry. Go look at a home supply store. Keep a phone (cell phone would be good) by your bed. Lock the bedroom door and put an alarm at that door if someone opened it. It depends on how much you think you need. Were the doors and windows locked? Are there bushes by the window to allow someone to hide?

Contact Platinum Protection. They are an alarm company that will GIVE you a wireless police/fire/medic alarm. The only cost to you is a $99 activation fee, and a monthly monitoring fee of $47.99 a month for 60 months. The alarm system is yours to keep.
You will have your entry doors burglar alarmed, a motion detector, and a fire/smoke detector that will dispatch the fire dept (regular smoke detectors will wake you up and save your life, but will just beep while your home burns down).
If your profile allowed me to email you, I could give you more info on this free alarm system.
